September 2010 to Present - Photographing artwork, collectibles, memorabiiia, and historical items from a private collection -
For someone interested in history like I am, this is a very exciting assignment. I'm photographing everything from ancient coins, personal items connected to historical figures, old newsprint, magazines and records, artwork, and countless other items.
November 16 & 18, 2010 - Aerospace/Defense Industry Organization Annual Event at Hyatt Grand Champions Indian Wells, California - An annual event for a defense supplier indusrty corporation, which involved shots at the 7th hole of the La Quinta Dunes Golf Couse, which is in the Coachella Valley, about 15 miles from Palm Springs. What a beautiful 80 degree day it was, and I even had a roadrunner come close by the cart as I was waiting for the next group to play through. The gala was two days later at the Hyatt Grand Champions, which involved photographing the festivities and award recieptients, both onstage and afterwards.
November 4, 2010 - Green Screen Photography at San Diego Reception for Convention Attendees - A university client wanted to add some fun to their reception for educators held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. They requested a space-themed background, so we designed these backgrounds for our green screen photography. We printed 5x7's onsite, and the photos were enthusiastically received by the guests.
November 15, 2010 - Woodland Hills Medical Facility Construction Photography - These are the photos of the completed medical facility in Woodland Hills (see center image below). There are numerious patient rooms, two main treatment rooms pictured above, conference room and nurse stations, and the main waiting room pictured before (center photo below) and after (center photo).
October 20, 2010 - Groundbreaking Ceremony and Construction Progress Photography - Three assignments in one day; funny how it seems to happen that several clients need me at the same time. The locations were in Orange County and Los Angeles, on a very rainy traffic-challenged day. The first was a morning groundbreaking for Chevron at a solar energy-powered school in Huntington Beach. The rain held-off just long enough for the outside shots, whew! Then off to Woodland Hills to a medical facility under construction, for progress photos, and next to Beverly Hills for more medical facility construction progress photography. The last photo is a medical vault that houses the equipment for radiation therapy, which is a field that my client of the last five+ years specializes in. I'll be back in December to do the completed shots.
October 4 & 5, 2010 – Trade show booth photography and on site printing – We just finished two days of promotional photography at the NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL ANNUAL CONGRESS & EXPO, held at the San Diego Convention Center. What an interesting assignment this was, as we were photographing guests to the trade show booth with a 9-foot robot http://gigamaxx.com! This was not just a static statue, but an animated, walking, talking, dancing, joke-telling robot. Actually there was an operator inside, but you would be surprised how many people asked me if “Empower”, as the robot was called, was real. He had a powerful presence, and many people (including myself) had a child-like wonder around him. What was more amazing was that the people who rent the robot for events constructed it from scratch. We took photos of anyone who wanted one, and printed 4x6” photos as a promo give away, usually produced within a minute or two. Great fun!
September 26, 2010 - Aerial photography & architectural photography - Target - Simi Valley, CA - This is the second aerial assignment for this client, and it was in addition to taking ground-level photos. The temperature that day was 100 degrees at 10 am. I'm still not comfortable flying with the doors off, but it really was a pleasant flight.
August 5,6 & 7, 2010 - Trade show photography at the American Bar Association Annual Meeting - Moscone Center San Francisco - We were hired to photograph John Walsh, host of America's Most Wanted, in a trade show booth at the American Bar Association's Annual Meeting. We compiled an email list of anyone we photographed with Mr. Walsh to send the photos to, and to generate a client list for our client.
August 9&10, 2010 - Event photography at Hispanic Retail 360 Summit - Hyatt Regency La Jolla - This two-day assignment was for a media company for publication in several business magazines, as well as documentation and promotion of future summits. The conference was about marketing to the Hispanic community.
August 11, 2010 - HABS_HAER photography assignment at Camp Lockett, Jacumba, California - This assignment was to photograph a historic site on film, to the specifications known as The Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) and the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), which are programs that the National Park Service established for the purpose of documenting historic places. It must be photographed on black and white film, and on a 4x5" (or larger) camera platform. The film must be processed to specific standards, and contact printed on fiber-based paper. I have done this type of work since the early 1990's, and it was great working with film, and with my 4x5" camera again. This site had once been a stable for the famed "Buffalo Soldiers", who trained at the camp. The nickname Buffalo Soldiers were given to the "Negro Cavalry" by the Native American tribes they fought, and the term eventually became synonymous with all of the African-American regiments formed from 1866 on.
July 19, 2010 - Medical Facility in San Francisco, California - A medical out-patient treatment center in San Francisco, which was a refurbished 100 year old manufacturing facility on San Francisco's south side. Besides being an all brick building, there were these massive wood support beams and pillars, which you almost never see today. It was interesting how the contractor incorporated these unusual features into the design of the facility.
